Are you passionate about a certain Calgary community, its stories, design, or people?

Mark your calendar for May 3-4-5, 2024.

Jane’s Walk is a global event of free neighbourhood walking tours held in Calgary and around the world each May inspired by urbanist and activist, Jane Jacobs.

We are looking for walk leaders to lead a variety of in-person guided group Jane’s Walks. Register below to lead your walk!

Jane’s Walk Calgary is also looking for volunteers and experts for a variety of other opportunities.

We are also looking for volunteers to help the event run smoothly. If you have a few hours to contribute to this celebration of cities, walking, and deeply connecting with the stories and possibilities of where you live, please email us to let us know you’d like to help.
Jane’s Walk virtual activities (e.g.: a panel conversation on Zoom about the history of a neighborhood)
Self-guided walks using the Story-City app – an app that allows creators to tell interactive stories and experiences that only open when you are standing in the right location. You are also welcome to use Google Maps, or another platform of your choosing.

WHO’S JANE

Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) Jane was an urbanist and activist whose writings championed a fresh, community-based approach to city building.

She saw cities as ecosystems that had their own logic and dynamism which would change over time according to how they were used. With a keen eye for detail, she wrote eloquently about sidewalks, parks, retail design and self-organization. At the core of her work and thinking was the need to get out and walk your city and observe how people, through their actions and interactions, create communities with a strong sense of belonging.

Submitted walks will appear on the website upon approval of the walk from Jane’s Walk coordinators. You will receive an email to the email address you input with the confirmation of your walk submission details. If you need to change anything on your walk listing, please email janeswalk@calgarycommunities.com with your changes.
